A free Vestaboard alternative that runs in your browser

Festaboard renders the exact grid a physical Vestaboard uses — 6 rows by 22 columns, 132 character tiles — and animates each one with a real split-flap flip. You type a message, send it, and the tiles cascade into place the way a mechanical board does.

The flip sound is modeled to be softer and more pleasant than a harsh train-station board, and you can mute it whenever you want quiet. Set per-cell color tiles in white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple, and pick a theme — Classic Amber, Terminal Green, Clean White, Cool Blue, or Warm Red — to match the room the screen sits in.

A physical Vestaboard is a lovely object. It has real mechanical tiles that actually turn, a solid frame you hang on a wall, and a physical presence a screen cannot fully copy. If a tangible art piece is what you are after, that is exactly what it is built for.

Festaboard makes a different trade. You give up the moving tiles and get the split-flap look on any screen you already own, for free, with edits that land instantly and live data built in. There is no unit to ship, mount, or power on its own, and no subscription. For most people who just want the board on a wall, a TV, or a desk, software covers it.

Festaboard is an independent project and is not affiliated with Vestaboard. It is a tribute to the split-flap format, not a copy of anyone's hardware.

Because Festaboard is a browser web app, it runs on laptops, desktops, tablets, and smart TVs with no dedicated device. Press F for fullscreen and the site chrome disappears, leaving only the grid — the same clean look as a wall-mounted board.

For an always-on display, add ?kiosk=1 to the share URL. Kiosk mode drops the chrome, lowers motion, keeps sound off, and holds a screen Wake Lock so the display never sleeps. It runs comfortably in a kiosk browser on single-board computers, from a Raspberry Pi 3A with 512MB of RAM up to a Pi 5, and on RK3568-based Android displays. You can also install it as a PWA with Add to Home Screen.

Two live integrations work today. Clock shows the current time, day, and date in 12- or 24-hour format and updates on its own. TrustMRR pulls live MRR, growth percentage, and customer count from your SaaS through a slug, so a revenue board stays current without you touching it.

More integrations are on the way. Weather, Crypto, Spotify, Home Assistant, Google Calendar, Countdown, and Datafast are coming soon and are not available yet.

Toggle public sharing to get a read-only link at festaboard.com/b/<token> that anyone can open with no account. It is a simple way to send a board to a teammate or put it on a second screen.

In fullscreen you can rotate between your main board and extra saved slides on an interval you choose, from 5 minutes up to 120 minutes. Animation is tunable through the URL too: ?anim=full for the complete flip, ?anim=lite for fewer steps, and ?anim=off for instant swaps on very low-power devices. Festaboard also respects your operating system's reduced-motion setting automatically.
